I had to be 16 or 17 years old. I almost kept walking, but then I doubled back and grabbed my BlackBerry out of my purse. MAN LOL! I remember going up and asking for a photo. I handed my phone to someone else in the crowd and when they lifted it up to take the picture, WALE TURNED HIS FACE FROM THE CAMERA AT THE LAST SECOND. WHAT?! The guy who took the photo was just as flabbergasted and handed my phone back like, “Better luck next time!” I wish I still had the picture. BlackBerry photos were already blurry enough! When all the stories came out about his “diva” behavior I felt vindicated. Dont meet your heroes folks! JK, I didn’t really care at the time - atleast I got the photo!&nbsp; On another note, Potomac Mills was THEEE best mall to live by. Peak “chilling at the mall all day on a Saturday” vibes. I was playing a couple of Wale songs for Kevin recently, and he’d never heard some of them. You really just had to be there!!1! Growing up in Northern Virginia during that time was such a BLESSING! The more I reflect on my youth, the more grateful I am for it. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. SIDE NOTE LOL! I remember talking to my mom recently about how I had a North Face growing up during that era. She then broke the news to me that it was a bootleg she bought in China when she was on a work trip. I was expecting a lot of snow and cold weather, but it was actually pretty nice for most of the trip. Kevin always comes here for the holidays, but we have to plan a visit in the spring or summer. Cleveland is small, but the waterfront areas are gorgeous. The small-town feeling makes it feel more relaxing and niche. Still, it’s pretty popular though! We stopped by a bakery similar to Paris Baguette (but, in my opinion, much better) called Tous les Jours, and I was like… wow, Ohio has some gems. We were on the top floor of a triplex that had been converted from a single-family home (I think). While Kevin almost hit his head multiple times (lol), it was very cozy. The slightly creepy photos I took of the homes in the neighborhood while walking Nathaniel don’t do them justice. Kevin said I’ve lived in Philly too long, hehe, but the houses were older and charming, each with their own blueprint. During the pandemic, I made more of an effort to acknowledge people I didn’t know, mostly in retail settings because that was the only in-person interaction I had at the time. I found it more often than not took people by surprise, but it was nice to hear that acknowledgement in return. I existed! As did they. But as the world started circling back, my little pleasantries did too. For some reason, during the 4th quarter of this year, it hit me again ad nauseam. One day I was at the papi store, and when the cook gave me my platter, a simple thank you turned into him thanking me because he hadn’t heard someone say that to him in a long time.&nbsp; A couple of weeks ago I was at Chipotle, and the young kid (wow, I’m old enough to say that now) making my bowl could not make eye contact with me in sheepish way. It was the cutest thing ever, and I wanted to melt into a puddle. At my job, one of our clients — someone I never really had an interaction with to begin with, would always randomly email me and say, “Danielle, I just wanted to reach out to say I hope you’re having a beautiful day today.” I would squeal in my seat with excitement, cursing myself for not emailing her first. (Now that I think about it, I must email her tomorrow!)&nbsp;Whenever I’m at the thrift store, I can always count on an older women striking up a conversation with me about what’s in my cart or what I’m trying on. Always.&nbsp; Even as the world rushes by, a simple 'thank you,' a smile, or a few kind words can hit harder than you expect. They make the world feel a little softer, more like a community than an individual going through the simulation alone. We've searched extensively for our favorite from Menagerie Coffee. What I really appreciate about chai is the spice - I love that kick when I sip it, and this blend packs a lil punch. They also sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top, which is *chefs kiss. At my old job, I used to work out of here before heading into the office. I love how the front area is filled with light, while the back has a bit more of a moody atmosphere (though you still get light from the skylight by the restroom). It's a swell place to be productive, I must say.
